The best months for holidays
The month with the highest tourist traffic in Mykonos is July, followed by August and June. As is natural during this period, hotel prices are particularly high. A few words about the history of the island
According to Greek mythology, Mykonos was named after the hero Mykonos, son of King Anios of Delos. However, another version says that under the rocks of the island are buried the Giants of mythology, who were exterminated by Hercules during the Battle of the Giants. That is why it is said that Mykonos means «stony place».
Mykonos has been inhabited since ancient times, while in later years and specifically during the periods of Venetian and Ottoman rule it always played an important role.
